This case study was refreshed to reflect United Way of Central Oklahoma’s 2025 national brand update, including new color usage, updated logo assets, and improved contrast for accessibility.
Client Overview
United Way of Central Oklahoma supports dozens of nonprofit agencies and programs that address some of the most pressing needs in the region—from housing stability to mental health. Their mission is rooted in building stronger communities through collaboration and impact-driven funding.
Project Scope
By 2024, United Way’s existing website had not kept pace with the organization’s evolution. It was running on WordPress 4.9, used a heavily outdated theme, and was no longer mobile-friendly. The site did not reflect their current focus areas, and it fell short of accessibility standards.
They needed a full redesign that modernized the experience, aligned with current content priorities, and brought the site into compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines.
PixelMongers was brought in to lead the rebuild as a pro bono project, delivering a full migration and technical upgrade while setting the stage for future brand alignment.
Our Approach
We started by auditing the existing infrastructure and identifying all the legacy content in need of cleanup or migration. Given the age of the platform, a manual rebuild was the safest and most sustainable path forward.
- Migrated to WordPress 6.5.4 with a custom Hello Theme
- Implemented a mobile-first design using Elementor Pro and global containers
- Reorganized site structure to focus on program impact, donation paths, and community engagement
- Built a clean, accessible framework in compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards
Implementation Highlights
- Migrated 78 static pages and 162 blog/news posts
- Rebuilt ACF fields for improved manageability
- Implemented security upgrades using Solid Security Pro
- Integrated Office 365 email API for reliable form delivery
- Trained internal staff to manage content independently
- Added flexible landing page templates for future campaigns
Results
The new site offers:
- A responsive experience across devices
- A streamlined information architecture
- Clearer donation paths and calls to action
- An accessible design that meets the latest federal guidelines
The result is a site that better reflects United Way’s impact and values while positioning them for long-term content sustainability.
