Introduction

Sooner Job Challenge (SJC) is a post-residential education and workforce development program operated by the Oklahoma Military Department and National Guard. Designed for graduates of the Thunderbird Youth Challenge Program, SJC equips young adults with industry certifications and career-readiness training in aviation maintenance, welding, culinary arts, and autobody repair.

PixelMongers worked with Sooner Job Challenge to design and launch their first official website—a professional, accessible, and easy-to-manage platform that communicates the program’s mission, streamlines admissions, and connects applicants, families, and employers with the resources they need.

The Challenge

As a new standalone initiative, Sooner Job Challenge needed a digital presence that could clearly define who they serve and how the program works. Key goals included:

  • Establishing a strong, trustworthy online identity.

  • Streamlining admissions with a hybrid of FolderWave and internal WordPress workflows.

  • Ensuring WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility compliance for public programs.

  • Improving search visibility and measurable web traffic through SEO.

  • Making site management simple and sustainable for staff.

Without a prior website, everything from navigation structure to page hierarchy had to be created from the ground up.

Accessible, Modern Design
PixelMongers developed a clean, mobile-first WordPress site using Beaver Builder and Gravity Forms. The design adheres to WCAG 2.1 AA standards for accessibility, ensuring the experience is inclusive and consistent across devices.

Streamlined Admissions & Interview Workflows
With the program transitioning its main application processing to FolderWave, we implemented a complementary Gravity Flow workflow for the interview questionnaire process—allowing staff to manage interviews and notes directly within WordPress.

Audience-Focused Navigation
Dedicated sections for Candidates, Associates & Families, and Employers organize resources by audience. Clear eligibility criteria, packing lists, FAQs, and contact directories make the experience straightforward for students and parents.

SEO & Content Strategy
We applied foundational SEO practices during development, optimizing page structure, titles, and metadata for search visibility. Since launch, the site has seen steady organic traffic growth and improved search placement for Oklahoma youth training programs.

Ongoing Maintenance & Support
PixelMongers provides annual maintenance, plugin licensing, and security monitoring to ensure the site remains stable, secure, and compliant as the program evolves.
